Robert L. Rothman is a principal of Privacy Associates International LLC, a privacy services firm. From 2002 to 2009 he was the chief privacy officer of General Motors (GM) and head of GM's Global Privacy Center. Mr. Rothman held a variety of other positions during his career at GM, including vice president and general counsel of General Motors International Operations and general counsel of General Motors Europe, both in Zurich, Switzerland. He was general counsel of Delphi Automotive Systems in Troy, Michigan, and headed up eGM's legal function in Detroit. eGM was the business unit responsible for GM's worldwide online presence. Mr. Rothman holds a JD from Ohio State University, an MBA from Duke University, and an AB in Chinese from the University of Michigan. He has taught privacy law as an adjunct professor at Wayne State University Law School and is currently an adjunct professor at Cooley Law School teaching international law courses. Mr. Rothman is co-chairperson of the Privacy Law Committee of the Information Technology Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan and is a frequent speaker at legal, business, and government functions. He was named a Best Privacy Advisor for 2010 in Computerworld Magazine.
