Leigh C. Taggart is an experienced intellectual property attorney who regularly litigates patent, trademark, copyright, antitrust, and trade secret matters throughout the United States and occasionally in other countries. In recent years, he has litigated trademark, copyright and trade secret matters involving the design of executive business jet aircraft seats, processes for manufacturing diesel engine components, packaging for imported basmati rice, and energy drinks. Mr. Taggart has also successfully litigated patent disputes in the fields of medical implants and other medical devices, nano-particulate drug therapies, intraocular lenses, wireless communications technology, silicon wafer substrates for computer chips, and jet engine components. Several of his intellectual property cases have also raised antitrust claims. Mr. Taggart has served as trial counsel in both jury and bench trials, has argued three appeals in patent and trademark cases in the Sixth Circuit and the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeal, and is a veteran of many preliminary injunction motions and hearings. Mr. Taggart previously served as general counsel and secretary of Rexair, Inc. (now Rexair LLC), where he supervised the protection of a global patent and trademark portfolio valued in excess of $20 million. He formerly served as co-chairperson of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and is currently a Master Member of the Michigan Intellectual Property Law Inns of Court. A graduate of Cornell Law School, Mr. Taggart has lectured in the school's Federal Litigation Seminar and periodically speaks for Lorman Education, ICLE and the Information Technology Section of the Michigan State Bar Association on various legal topics.
