Derk W. Beckerleg

Derk W. Beckerleg is an executive partner with the firm and has specialized in municipal law for 40 years, representing numerous Michigan municipalities in such matters as property tax appeals, zoning, and condemnation, as well as the drafting of ordinances, resolutions, and contracts. Currently, he represents the cities of Auburn Hills and Bloomfield Hills as their city attorney, the Village of Bingham Farms as its village attorney, and Bloomfield Township as its township attorney. Mr. Beckerleg also has approximately 32 years of litigation experience before the Michigan Tax Tribunal, particularly property tax appeals and cases pertaining to the valuation of both real and personal property and special assessment matters. He is a member of the Oakland County Bar Association and the State Bar of Michigan. Author of an article published in "Smart Business," Mr. Beckerleg has conducted numerous seminars on a variety of municipal topics, including zoning board of appeals and planning commission practices and procedures. He has been designated a Michigan Super Lawyer from 2007 to 2022 and has been recognized by "The Best Lawyers in America" from 2011 to 2022 and as a "DBusiness" Top Lawyer from 2012 to 2022. In 2017, Mr. Beckerleg received the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys Distinguished Municipal Attorney Award.
