Mara Kent practices in the areas of estate planning, probate, trusts, stepparent and same sex adoptions, prenuptial agreements, and contract law. She is a shareholder at the firm and has been a licensed attorney since 1996. After law school, Ms. Kent went on to distinction as a law clerk for former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Michael F. Cavanagh. From 2000 to 2014, she was a tenured professor at Cooley Law School, where she is currently a senior professor emerita. Ms. Kent is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning, Elder Law and Disability Rights, and Taxation Sections of the State Bar of Michigan. She is also a current board member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association and the past cochair of its Estate Planning and Probate Section. Ms. Kent belongs to the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners, the Washtenaw Estate Planning Council, and the Planned Giving Roundtable of Southeast Michigan. She has served as a board member for the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County and Ann Arbor Active Against ALS. Ms. Kent also enjoys helping underserved clients through the Homes for Generations pro bono legal services project and Habitat for Humanity.
