John J. Bursch

John J. Bursch is the vice president of appellate advocacy for Alliance Defending Freedom, the largest public interest firm in the world defending religious liberty, free speech, the right to life, marriage, and family, and parental rights. He is also the founder and owner of his firm, a Michigan appellate boutique. Mr. Bursch has argued 12 cases in the U.S. Supreme Court and three dozen in the Michigan Supreme Court, often in matters involving the most pressing legal and social issues of the day. He has received a record nine Distinguished Brief Awards for his Michigan Supreme Court work and is the principal author of the "Guide for Counsel," the Michigan Supreme Court's publication regarding effective written and oral advocacy before the court. Mr. Bursch is one of only seven Michigan lawyers inducted into the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers and is also a member of the American Law Institute. He has enjoyed repeated listings in "The Best Lawyers in America," "Benchmark Litigation," and "Michigan Super Lawyers." "The Best Lawyers in America" has recognized Mr. Bursch as a Lawyer of the Year twice for appellate practice and once for bet-the-company litigation.
