Before taking the bench in 1999, Hon. Brian R. Sullivan practiced civil and criminal trials and appeals, with an emphasis on sports and law. In 2004, he served as presiding judge of the criminal division of the circuit court. Judge Sullivan also served as the director of the Holy Trinity Free Legal Clinic for 20 years. He is a member of the Committee on Model Civil Jury Instructions and the Committee on Model Criminal Jury Instructions. Judge Sullivan is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation, a member of the National Conference of Metropolitan Courts and the District of Columbia Bar, a former president of the Incorporated Society of Irish-American Lawyers, and a former member of the state bar's Standing Committee on Grievance for 11 years. He was a teaching fellow at Detroit College of Law for 10 years and is an adjunct professor at Cooley Law School.
