Karen D. McDonald

Pontiac, Michigan

Karen D. McDonald's professional career began as a high school English teacher before pursuing her legal career. As an assistant prosecutor in the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office, Ms. McDonald prosecuted child sexual assault cases as well as general misdemeanors and felonies. She then worked in private practice at Jaffe Raitt Heuer & Weiss, PC, specializing in civil and family law from 2004 to 2013 until she was elected to the Oakland County Circuit Court in November 2012, serving as a family court judge with a docket of divorce and custody, child abuse and neglect, and juvenile delinquent matters. Voluntarily stepping down from the bench in April 2019 to campaign for office, Ms. McDonald then transitioned into private practice specializing in family law matters before being elected as the Oakland County Prosecutor in November 2020, where she brings her experience, drive, and passion to the prosecutor’s office and the people of Oakland County with a plan for criminal justice reform.
