Hon. Timothy M. Kenny

Livonia, Michigan


Hon. Timothy M. Kenny has served on the Wayne County Circuit Court bench since 1996. He currently serves as the chief judge of the court. Judge Kenny has also served as presiding judge of the Criminal Division and was co-chief judge of the court from 2001 to 2003. His duties with the court also include serving as judge for the Mental Health Court pilot project and the Adult Drug Court program. Before becoming a judge, Judge Kenny served for 20 years as an assistant Wayne County prosecutor, serving as a chief trial attorney, director of the Career Criminal Prosecution Unit, and a special assistant U.S. attorney. During his service as a prosecuting attorney, he received the Leonard Gilman Award from the Federal Bar Association for outstanding practice of criminal law. He also spent several years in the private practice of law. Judge Kenny served as a reporter for the State Bar of Michigan Standing Committee on Standard Criminal Jury Instructions. He is also an adjunct professor in criminal justice at Madonna University and an instructor with the Michigan Judicial Institute and ICLE. In 2010, Judge Kenny was selected as one of Michigan's Leaders in the Law by "Michigan Lawyers Weekly."
