Have you ever represented a landlord who wanted to (or did) lock out a tenant? Be careful what you advise. Lockouts are prohibited in Michigan (see MCL 600.2918). And one landlord’s lockout that included the removal of the tenant’s personal property even resulted in statutory conversion according to the opinion in J Franklin Interests, LLC v Mu Meng (unpublished).
