Catherine A. Brainerd is an experienced litigator, with particular expertise in real estate, employment law, probate, and complex commercial litigation, practicing extensively in all Michigan and federal courts. Ms. Brainerd is an active member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association, having served as chair of the Labor and Employment Section from 2016 to 2018, and she is on the board of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Western Region. Ms. Brainerd started her career at a large Detroit-based law firm and later served as law clerk to former Chief Judge Donald Johnston of the 17th Circuit Court. She graduated magna cum laude from Wayne State University Law School, where she served as editor-in-chief of the "Wayne Law Review."
