In private practice, Jane A. Bassett focuses on elder law, estate planning, adoptions, probate administration, special needs trusts, nursing home and Medicaid issues, and elder abuse and exploitation. Ms. Bassett is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (since 2002); past council member for the State Bar of Michigan’s Elder Law and Disability Rights Section; and member of the Washtenaw County Bar Association. Ms. Bassett is a charter member of the National Family Law Advisory Committee of the National Center for Lesbian Rights and the Family Law Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Bar Association. She has been a speaker at national law conferences on LGBT family and elder law. She is also a past member of the board of advisors for the Housing Bureau for Seniors, connected with Turner Geriatric Clinic at the University of Michigan, and founding member of the Coalition for Adoption Rights Equality (CARE, Inc.). A graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, Ms. Bassett is herself an adoptive parent.
