Margaret Costello has been a staff lawyer for the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) since May 2023. Ms. Costello represents veterans before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and provides training to veterans advocates. Prior joining NVLSP, she was associate professor and director of the Veterans Law Clinic at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law for 15 years. During her tenure there, Ms. Costello oversaw the founding and development of the Veterans Law Clinic. Before joining the faculty at Detroit Mercy Law, she was a member of the law firm of Dykema Gossett in Detroit, where she spent 22 years practicing litigation and appeals. Ms. Costello also chaired the firm’s pro bono committee for many years. She is a recipient of the Michigan State Bar Champion of Justice Award and is a frequent presenter and trainer on veterans benefits law in Michigan and throughout the United States.
