Michael E. McCabe, Jr., is the managing partner of the firm. He has practiced intellectual property law for 30 years and is a registered patent attorney and nationally recognized lecturer and author on topics related to ethics and malpractice in the practice of IP law. For the last decade, his practice has focused on the representation of patent, trademark, and intellectual property practitioners, law firms, universities, law students, in-house counsel, and government employees in ethics matters, bar investigations, and disciplinary proceedings before the USPTO’s Office of Enrollment and Discipline as well as the state bars in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Mr. McCabe also represents law firms and practitioners in claims involving legal malpractice, sanctions, and disqualification issues and he has served as an expert witness in disciplinary proceedings and legal malpractice actions. He serves as vice chair of the American Bar Association IP Section’s Professional Issues Division. He is also the immediate past chair and current vice chair of the ABA’s Ethics and Professional Responsibility Committee and chair of the AIPLA Patent Agent Subcommittee on Ethics. Mr. McCabe has twice served three-year terms as a faculty member for the Virginia State Bar’s Professionalism Course for new members, where he leads breakout sessions on ethics in intellectual property law. He graduated from the University of Baltimore School of Law and earned a BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Mr. McCabe worked as an engineer for NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
