James A. Keedy (deceased)

James A. Keedy was the executive director of the Michigan Indian Legal Services (MILS) from 1988 to 2018. He was a Volunteer in Service to America attorney for the Washtenaw County Legal Aid Society in 1977-1978. Prior to joining MILS, Mr. Keedy was a staff attorney and managing attorney at Legal Services of Southeastern Michigan. He was a chair and member of the American Indian Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan, member of the State Bar's American Indian Law Committee, and ex officio member of the Steering Committee and treasurer of the National Association of Indian Legal Services for more than 20 years. He was presented the Tecumseh Peacekeeping Award by the State Bar of Michigan American Indian Law Section in 2004. He was the 2018 recipient of the Parent Attorney of the Year Award by the Michigan Foster Care Review Board and the 2018 recipient of the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association Pierce-Hickerson Award. Mr. Keedy died February 1, 2022.
