Mark A. Armitage is the executive director and general counsel of the Michigan Attorney Discipline Board (ADB). Prior to joining the ADB's staff in 1994, Mr. Armitage clerked for the Michigan Court of Appeals, was in private practice, served as a hearing panelist, and was on the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) Standing Committee on Grievance. He is a past president of the National Organization of Bar Counsel (NOBC), which is comprised of discipline counsel and lawyer regulators from over 75 agencies in the United States, Canada, and other countries, and he currently serves as chair of the NOBC Committee on the Future of Lawyer Regulation. A fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and American Bar Foundation, Mr. Armitage has also served on the board and program committee of the National Council of Lawyer Disciplinary Boards (NCLDB) and is a current member of the NCLDB, the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers, and the International Conference of Legal Regulators. He has been active in American Bar Association (ABA) and SBM committees relating to legal ethics and public sector lawyers and has served on consulting teams for state supreme courts on the operation of statewide discipline. Mr. Armitage is cochair of the Nontraditional Business Models Committee of the Regulatory Workgroup of the Michigan Justice for All Commission and serves on the ABA Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility. He has taught law school courses in professional responsibility as an adjunct professor and has lectured on legal ethics and lawyer regulation at seminars sponsored by professional organizations at the national, state, and local level.
