Barry R. Powers is a commercial litigator who has for over 27 years handled business cases and cases of public importance throughout the United States. Having represented a wide variety of both public- and private-sector plaintiffs and defendants, he has extensive experience in state and federal trial and pretrial practice and is an accomplished appellate advocate, having argued numerous cases before a number of appellate tribunals, including the Michigan Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC. Mr. Powers also works in the areas of constitutional law and the representation of developmentally disabled adults. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan's Litigation, Business Law, and Real Property Law Sections as well as several local bar associations, and he has received Martindale-Hubbell's rating of AV Preeminent. Mr. Powers is a former member of the State Bar of Michigan's Ethics Committee and served on the State Bar's Representative Assembly for several terms. A renowned proceduralist, Mr. Powers has authored chapters in ICLE's "Michigan Civil Procedure" (first and second editions) and a number of law review articles in the areas of civil practice and procedure, unfair competition, and family law. He has been a guest speaker at Cooley Law School and for ICLE and the State Bar's Business Law Section on matters of practice, procedure, and legal ethics. Mr. Powers is currently a member of the Advocates Guild of the Michigan Supreme Court Historical Society.
