Timothy P. Flynn

Waterford, Michigan


Timothy P. Flynn concentrates his practice in the areas of divorce and family law, criminal law, and probate litigation, as well as appellate litigation. He has served as a mediator in the Michigan Court of Appeals' settlement program, as a court-appointed mediator on family law and probate cases, and as defense counsel for the 52/2 District Sobriety Court. Mr. Flynn is approved by the Oakland County Circuit Court administrator to defend major felonies. The Michigan Department of the Attorney General appointed him as a special assistant attorney general in the Child Support Unit of the Criminal Division, and in 2003, appointed him as a public administrator for Oakland County. As a professional fiduciary, Mr. Flynn serves as a guardian, conservator, personal representative, and trustee for a variety of incapacitated individuals, estates, and trusts. He was a pre-hearing attorney for the Michigan Court of Appeals and for five years was an associate attorney in the appellate section of one of Michigan's largest private law firms. Currently, Mr. Flynn serves as a roster attorney for the Michigan Appellate Assigned Counsel System, representing indigent convicts before the Michigan Court of Appeals. He was among the first attorneys in Michigan to complete the Family Law Certificate Program developed by ICLE in cooperation with the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. A former assistant professor and director of legal studies at the University of Detroit Mercy, Mr. Flynn has had articles published in the "UDM Law Review" and the "Michigan Bar Journal." and developed an online course for paralegals. Mr. Flynn is a member of the family and criminal law sections of the State Bar of Michigan and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of the Oakland County Bar Association, the Citizens Alliance Committee of the Oakland County Circuit Court, and the Michigan Guardianship Association. Mr. Flynn is admitted to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, as well as the courts of the State of Michigan.
