Miriam L. Blanks-Smart is the executive director of the city of Detroit's "Blight Court," the Department of Appeals and Hearings (DAH). Before coming to the DAH, she was supervising assistant corporation counsel at the city's law department, responsible for managing teams of civil litigators and municipal code prosecutors. Previously, Ms. Blanks-Smart was a private practitioner with law firms in metro Detroit, a former public administrator for Wayne County, and practiced in the areas of civil litigation, employment law, and probate litigation. She is a frequent speaker on municipal code and blight enforcement and has written articles and given seminars in the areas of employment law and litigation. Ms. Blanks-Smart is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School where she was the recipient of the Wolverine Bar Association scholarship. She is a founding member of the D. Augustus Straker Bar Association.
