Kerry J. Spencer has been with the firm since 1986 and has exclusively practiced Social Security law her entire legal career. She has litigated over ten thousand cases across the state and is familiar with the intricate Social Security laws. Ms. Spencer is active in litigating cases both at the administrative level and in federal District Court for the Eastern and Western Divisions and the federal 6th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has resulted in a number of federal court reversals and published cases of important precedential value. She is a current board member and past chair for the State Bar of Michigan Social Security Lawyers Section, which she helped form, and is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. Ms. Spencer has written a blog that addresses Social Security issues and hosted a podcast for the state bar's Social Security Lawyers Section. She also regularly gives presentations on various aspects of the Social Security Act to case managers, social workers, and medical professionals. Ms. Spencer conducts multiple training seminars every year on Social Security issues such as the definition of disability, the steps for completing the complex application process (from initial filing to the final hearing before a judge), how to evaluate the validity of a Social Security disability claim, the various types of acceptable evidence, and strategies for successfully submitting a claim.
