An appellate attorney, Steven A. Hicks typically represents injured persons before the state and federal appellate courts. He has successfully litigated numerous cases on appeal that have established law more favorable for injured persons in Michigan. Mr. Hicks also assists trial counsel litigating cases in the lower courts with issues likely to end up on appeal, as well as conducting presuit research necessary to evaluate potential claims. Before specializing in appeals, he had an active trial practice handling serious personal injury and no-fault insurance claims. Mr. Hicks is currently licensed to practice law in the state courts of Illinois and Michigan. He also is admitted to practice before the federal district courts in Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Hicks often serves as appellate counsel for the Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ) by writing amicus curiae briefs on behalf of the MAJ in important cases pending before the appellate courts in Michigan. He also frequently testifies on proposed legislation before the Michigan Legislature for the MAJ. Mr. Hicks is a member of the MAJ executive board. He currently serves as the chair of the MAJ legislative committee and as a cochair for auto no-fault cases with the MAJ amicus committee. Mr. Hicks is a member of several sections of the State Bar of Michigan, including Negligence Law, Appellate Practice, and Insurance and Indemnity Law.
