Maria R. Messina Wiersma has focused her practice on planning and advocacy for seniors and persons with disabilities. She is a frequent presenter for senior and community groups on legal issues as well as elder abuse and is active in the "No Excuse for Elder Abuse" campaign. Ms. Wiersma serves on the State Bar of Michigan's Elder Law and Disability Rights Section's Council, including its Vulnerable Adult Abuse Prevention Committee, and is a member of the State Bar's Probate and Estate Planning Section. She also serves on the advisory council for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Community Social Services of Wayne County and the board of directors for ARC Services of Macomb County, a nonprofit providing services and advocacy for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
