Neil D. Williams focuses his practice on transactional and business planning matters, with an emphasis on taxation. Mr. Williams has significant experience advising both public and private clients on the taxation of domestic and international mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and joint ventures and restructurings. He has advised clients through the entire M&A life cycle, including preclose negotiations, due diligence and structuring, as well as postclose integration and tax attribute management. Mr. Williams also has experience in a broad range of federal income tax matters, including with respect to C corporations, S corporations, partnerships, and real estate investment trusts. He has advised business clients on day-to-day tax planning and annual compliance matters and also advised real estate clients on the formation and operation of real estate partnerships and real estate investment trusts. Mr. Williams counsels many clients on both day-to-day and long-term planning matters, including commercial contracting, business formation, succession planning, tax exams, and tax litigation. He is admitted to practice in Michigan, Illinois, and California. Mr. Williams is a member of the American Bar Association's Taxation Section and the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan. He was selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2017 and 2018.
