Angie Martell (she/they) is the founder and managing partner of the firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and founder and executive director of Colibrí Institute of Social Justice. Martell has practiced law since 1990. Martell is licensed in Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, and the District Court of Puerto Rico. Martell is the chair of the State Bar of Michigan LGBTQA Law Section. Martell serves on the Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) of the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Department of Attorney General's Elder Abuse Task Force. Martell was the recipient of the Washtenaw County Bar Association's (WCBA's) Martin Luther King, Jr. "I Have a Dream" Award for her/their work building trust between the community and the legal system and for tireless devotion to securing fair and equal treatment for all individuals under the law. Martell has also served as cochair of the WCBA’s LGBTQ Rights section. Martell is a past cooperating attorney with Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, National Center for Lesbian Rights, and the ACLU of Michigan's LGBT Project. Martell has worked extensively in the areas of civil rights, family law, LGBT issues, employee rights, business law, conscious contracts, criminal defense, mediation, and arbitration. Martell is a peacemaking circle facilitator and works extensively in the Latine/Latinx, LGBTQ+, deaf, immigrant, and other marginalized communities. Martell provides DEI training and is a certified Inner MBA graduate.
