Michael G. Nowakowski

Michael G. Nowakowski is an attorney, mediator, and instructor with over three decades of experience in labor relations and employment matters. He has been involved in the traditional negotiation of collective bargaining agreements as well as the newer forms of collaborative bargaining. The resolution of disputes through mediation and the prevention of disputes through training, education, and relationship building has been his focus in working for the FMCS in Washington, DC, Cleveland, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan, where he currently serves as a commissioner. Mr. Nowakowski is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, a former chairperson of its Labor and Employment Law Section, and a member and council member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Section. He also is a member of LERA and a past president of the Detroit chapter. A certified mediator for the Wayne and Oakland County Circuit Courts, Mr. Nowakowski serves on the advisory board for the EEOC/ADR program in Detroit and on the ICLE Mediation Advisory Board. He also serves on the boards of the Association for Conflict Resolution - Southeast Michigan Chapter, the Dispute Resolution Association of Michigan, and the Michigan Labor-Management Association, where he is editor of its newsletter "Agenda." He is a former chairperson of the Oakland County Bar Association's ADR and Diversity Committees and a member of the Metropolitan Detroit Bar Association's ADR Section. Having mediated over 1,000 labor and employment disputes in more than 35 years as a mediator, Mr. Nowakowski has been named one of "The Best Lawyers in America" for ADR for several years. He has had several articles published in "Laches."
