George B. Davis is a partner at his firm. He specializes in municipal and environmental law matters on behalf of public clients throughout the state, with particular emphasis on matters regarding the Clean Water Act, permits under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, industrial pretreatment programs, stormwater regulations, and wetlands. Mr. Davis’s statewide-recognized expertise includes the review and drafting of local ordinances (such as sewer use ordinances, drinking water ordinances, and other types of regulatory ordinances and zoning regulations) and assisting local units of government with the administration and enforcement of those regulations as special legal counsel. He also has significant experience in drafting and negotiating interjurisdictional agreements between local governments (including wastewater treatment service agreements). Before joining the firm in 1998, Mr. Davis was a partner with Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett, LLP, where he practiced municipal and environmental law for 13 years. Mr. Davis is a member of the State Bar of Michigan and its Civil Infractions Committee and all of its Public Corporation Law Section (now the Government Law Section) and has served as chair of its Zoning and Land Use and Publications Committees. He also serves as the current chair of the East Grand Rapids Zoning Board of Appeals. Mr. Davis was elected to the East Grand Rapids Charter Commission from 1988 to 1990 and was chair of the East Grand Rapids Planning Commission from 1990 to 1998. He served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Michigan Water Environment Association from 2014 to 2020.
