Carl Rashid, Jr., is a member of the firm's Real Estate Practice Group and leads its Property Tax Appeals practice. He focuses his practice on property tax appeals, with vast experience in eminent domain, economic development and tax incentives, and general real estate. Mr. Rashid also has experience in state and local taxes, condemnation law, and government affairs matters. As a private practitioner, he has represented taxpayers in property matters for over 36 years. Mr. Rashid previously served as an assistant corporation counsel of the City of Detroit, representing the finance department, the Detroit Board of Assessors, and the city treasurer. He is a member of the Beaumont Health Finance Committee, serves on the board of directors of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, and is a former city council member of the City of Grosse Pointe. Mr. Rashid is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Metropolitan Detroit Bar Association’s Committees on Real Property and Taxation, and the American Bar Association. A frequent author and speaker on topics relating to property tax, he has authored several pieces of Michigan property tax legislation, including the Commercial Redevelopment District Act (1978 PA 255) and 2000 PA 317, involving personal property taxes. He is a coauthor of "Michigan Tax Practice and Procedure," a coeditor of "Michigan Real Estate Law," and has served as a moderator and lecturer for ICLE and as a lecturer for the Michigan Municipal League.
