Clyde J. Robinson, now semi-retired, spent 43 years in the practice of municipal law: for the city of Battle Creek from 1980 to 2008 as an assistant city attorney, deputy city attorney, lead counsel for civil litigation responsibilities in state and federal trial and appellate courts, and finally as the city attorney from 1999 to 2008; and for the city of Kalamazoo from 2008 to 2023 as the city attorney. He served on the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys board of directors from 2002 to 2022 and as its president from 2015 to 2017. Mr. Robinson was a past president (1988-1989) of the Calhoun County Bar Association, a former chair (2003-2004) of the Public Corporation Law Section (now the Government Law Section) of the State Bar of Michigan, and a past two-term member (1992-1998) of the State Bar Representative Assembly. He was on the Advisory Committee for the Kellogg Community College Legal Assistant Program and served a term on the Western Michigan University College of Arts & Sciences Dean's Advisory Committee. Mr. Robinson has presented and written on legal developments impacting the practice of municipal law and on marijuana law from the municipal perspective since voter adoption of the Michigan Medical Marihuana Act in 2008 and the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marihuana Act in 2018. In 2019 he received the Outstanding Service Award for these efforts from the Michigan Municipal League. In 2026, Mr. Robinson was appointed the Ethics Arbiter for Traverse City. He graduated summa cum laude from Western Michigan University in 1976 and received his JD from the University of Michigan Law School in 1979.
