Chad D. Engelhardt

Ann Arbor, Michigan


Chad D. Engelhardt practices in the areas of medical malpractice and automobile negligence. Before becoming a lawyer, he served for over 12 years as an officer with a large law enforcement agency. Mr. Engelhardt is a past chairperson of the Negligence Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM) and currently serves on the SBM Special Committee on Professionalism and Civility. He is a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation. Mr. Engelhardt has served on the SBM's Representative Assembly. He has also served as chair of the Michigan Association for Justice's Education Committee and as cochair of the Medical Malpractice Committee. In recognition of his trial skills, civility, and professionalism, Mr. Engelhardt was honored with the prestigious Respected Advocate Award (2023) by the Michigan Defense Trial Counsel. In addition to being listed in "The Best Lawyers in America" in the area of medical malpractice, Mr. Engelhardt has been named a Top 100 Super Lawyer and a Top 50 Consumer Lawyer by Super Lawyers; a Top 40 Under 40 and a Top 100 Trial Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers Association; a Top Lawyer in the areas of medical malpractice, personal injury, and professional liability by "DBusiness" magazine; 2023 Lawyer of the Year in the area of plaintiff medical malpractice (Ann Arbor) by Best Lawyers; and an Up and Coming Lawyer by "Michigan Lawyers Weekly." He serves as a mediator and case evaluator. In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Engelhardt is an adjunct professor and clinical field supervisor at Cooley Law School, where he mentors students and teaches courses in medical malpractice and litigation skills. Mr. Engelhardt has also been a guest lecturer for the University of Michigan Law School's trial practice courses. He is a regular author, editor, and continuing legal education speaker on medical negligence and litigation issues. In addition, Mr. Engelhardt presents medicolegal and patient safety seminars to medical and nursing programs across the country.
