Valerie A. Kutz-Otway is the inclusion and lawyer development director for the firm and previously served as the firm's managing attorney. She focuses her practice in the areas of probate litigation and estate planning, with a special emphasis on assisting persons with disabilities or mental illness. Ms. Kutz-Otway is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning, Elder Law and Disability Rights, and Military and Veterans' Law sections of the State Bar of Michigan, and serves as president of the NAELA Michigan Chapter Board. She previously served on the board of directors for the Saginaw County Bar Association and was the chair of its Pro Bono Committee for more than a decade. In addition, Ms. Kutz-Otway serves on the board of directors for HIS Restoration Ministries, an organization that provides shelter and counseling for homeless expectant mothers. In 2019 and 2020, Ms. Kutz-Otway was selected as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers, and she was honored as one of the Class of 2024 Influential Women of Law by "Michigan Lawyers Weekly." She frequently lectures on the topics of guardianships and conservatorships and has set precedent with published cases in both the Michigan Supreme Court and the Michigan Court of Appeals. Ms. Kutz-Otway is licensed to practice in the state of Michigan, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims.
