Dr. Carly Baetz is a clinical psychologist and associate professor of psychology at Purdue University Northwest, where she currently oversees the Master’s and PsyD graduate programs. She also has a faculty appointment in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. Dr. Baetz has over a decade of experience working with youth and families involved in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems and she served as Project Director and Principal Investigator on a federally funded SAMHSA grant (2016-2021) focused on expanding trauma informed services within New York City juvenile detention facilities. Her work focuses on the assessment and treatment of youth with trauma histories, research on the implementation of trauma informed practices in legal settings, and the delivery of trauma informed training and consultation to juvenile legal system professionals, including judges, attorneys, and direct care staff. Dr. Baetz has published extensively on the intersection between trauma and the juvenile legal system. Prior to her career in psychology, Dr. Baetz was a staff attorney at the Legal Aid Society’s Juvenile Rights Practice in New York City, where she represented youth in child protective and juvenile delinquency proceedings.
