Dr. David J. Brown is the associate vice president and associate dean for Health Equity and Inclusion, as well as associate professor of pediatric otolaryngology at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Brown leads the Office for Health Equity and Inclusion at Michigan Medicine and the Academic Medical Center, which provides numerous pipeline and mentorship programs serving the medical pipeline at Michigan Medicine (pre-medical college, medical school, residency, and faculty). He has successfully recruited many medical students, house officers, and faculty to the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Brown is an executive sponsor of the Anti-Racism Oversight Committee (AROC) initiated in June 2020 and co-lead of the LGBTQ+ Advisory Group. He was previously on the faculty at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was the Otolaryngology Residency Associate Program director and winner of the 2005 George T. Nager Award for Excellence in Teaching. He worked from 2008-11 at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he won the Otolaryngology Faculty Teaching Award. Dr. Brown has been a faculty member at Michigan Medicine since 2011 and was the medical director of the Pediatric Otolaryngology Clinic, Multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Clinic, and founder and faculty lead of the Otolaryngology Essential Skills Simulation Bootcamp. He is a member of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Group on Diversity and Inclusion (GDI), and formerly served as the central region representative for the AAMC GDI from 2017-2019.
