Paul F. Monicatti is a full-time professional mediator and arbitrator with extensive training and experience in all phases of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He is cofounder of ADRoit Dispute Resolution, which provides ADR services to the bench, bar, businesses, and individuals, and cofounder of Strongbridge Negotiation Strategists, which provides negotiation advice, consultation, and training to businesses and individuals. He has served as a neutral in thousands of tort and commercial disputes since 1978 in virtually all areas of law, totaling over a billion dollars in resolved disputes. Mr. Monicatti has also served by court appointment as a mediator, arbitrator, facilitator, special master, case evaluator, receiver, expert witness, umpire, and referee/fact-finder. He was settlement master and mediator in two significant Flint, Michigan, water contamination cases in federal court and in the multibillion-dollar Dow Corning breast implant insurance coverage litigation in state court in the mid-1990s. Cofounder, past president, frequent board member, Knight, and a Distinguished Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators (having received its highest award), Mr. Monicatti is a member of the American Bar Association's Dispute Resolution Section and the State Bar of Michigan's ADR Section. He also is a charter member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and a member of Professional Resolution Experts of Michigan. Mr. Monicatti has served on the national advisory board for ACCESS ADR, an organization promoting diversity in the dispute resolution field, and in 2017 he received the Center for ADR's Recognition Award for his dedicated service and commitment to the needs of its culturally diverse community. In 2024, the International Academy of Mediators recognized Mr. Monicatti for his outstanding achievements in elevating the viability of women in the dispute resolution profession and encouraging gender equality for women worldwide. A frequent speaker and author on various topics concerning ADR, he has trained mediators privately and for court programs and twice has been videotaped while conducting mediation simulations. Mr. Monicatti has been a guest lecturer at many law schools and has written for Mediate.com, "Michigan Lawyers Weekly," the "Detroit Legal News," and ICLE, as well as the State Bar of Michigan's Labor and Employment Law Section, Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and "Cultural Awareness Project Manual." He has earned the highest ratings possible from Martindale-Hubble and is recognized for dispute resolution by "The Best Lawyers in America," Michigan Super Lawyers, "U.S. News and World Report," "Crain's Detroit Business," "DBusiness" magazine, and the international publication "Who's Who Legal: Mediation." Mr. Monicatti was named Best Lawyers' Troy Area Lawyer of the Year for arbitration in 2024 and mediation in 2019, Troy Area Lawyer of the Year for arbitration in 2018, and Detroit Area Lawyer of the Year for ADR in 2011. "Michigan Lawyers Weekly" selected him for its 2019 Leaders in the Law. He has taught ADR Advocacy Skills in negotiation, mediation, and arbitration as an adjunct professor of law at Cooley Law School.
