Julia Turner Baumhart practices in the areas of labor and employment law and appellate practice, focusing on trial and appellate work in state and federal courts and specializing in representing employers in employment discrimination and employee benefits litigation. She has handled cases before the Michigan appellate courts, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Sixth and Seventh Circuits, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Baumhart also has class-action experience, including defense against putative class actions in state and federal courts, as well as litigation brought by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs. She served on the board of the Federalist Society, Michigan Lawyers Chapter, from 1997 to 2014 and is a member of the American Bar Association's Litigation Section, Appellate Practice Committee, and Labor and Employment Law Section. Ms. Baumhart served as a law clerk to the Honorable James L. Ryan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. A frequent speaker at employment law seminars, Ms. Baumhart has published on such issues as workforce reductions, employers' access to workplace email, and other workplace privacy issues. Ms. Baumhart is a contributing author for the 1998 and 2010 supplements to the ABA's "Employment Discrimination Law" (3d and 4th eds).
