A partner in the firm, Barbara Eckert Buchanan focuses her practice on employment counseling and litigation, advising national and international employers regarding compliance with state and federal discrimination laws, the Family and Medical Leave Act, hiring and firing, employee privacy, noncompetition, wage-and-hour regulations, the development of employment policies and handbooks, severance programs and agreements, employment contracts, employee investigations, and the discipline and termination of union, nonunion, and highly compensated employees. She regularly defends employers before state civil rights agencies, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and state and federal courts in cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage-and-hour matters, and whistleblower claims at the trial and appellate court levels. Admitted to practice law in both Michigan and California, Ms. Buchanan is a member of the American Bar Association and the Eastern District of Michigan Federal Bar Association, for which she was a past executive board member.
