Hon. Susan A. Dabaja

On March 31, 2022, Judge Susan A. Dabaja was appointed to serve as judge in the 3rd Circuit Court by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, effective April 18, 2022. Judge Dabaja currently serves in the Family Domestic Division where she handles matters that affect Wayne County families daily. Judge Dabaja has been a dedicated public servant for over a decade. In 2013, Judge Dabaja was elected as President of the Dearborn City Council. She was sworn in as Council President in January 2014 and reelected in 2017, serving her constituents as Council President until December 2022. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Dabaja was working in private practice and represented clients for over 18 years. She specialized in family, civil, real estate, contracts, immigration, landlord-tenant, criminal, and bankruptcy law. Judge Dabaja offered pro bono services for single mothers, victims of domestic violence, nonprofit institutions and juveniles. Judge Dabaja also served as a mediator and guardian ad litem. Judge Dabaja is a member of the Detroit Bar Association, National Association of Women Judges, National Arab American Bar Association and the Wayne County Family Law Bar Association. Judge Dabaja remains actively involved in a variety of service-orientated organizations. She was a member and the cochair of the Dearborn Education Foundation for over a decade, member/volunteer in the Dearborn Rotary, Dearborn Goodfellows, and several other local charitable organizations. Judge Dabaja currently serves as an advisor on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the University of Michigan-Dearborn Chancellor. She previously served as a commissioner on CMEAA (Commission on Middle Eastern and American Affairs), appointed by former Governor Rick Snyder in 2015 and re-appointed by Governor Whitmer. In August 2019, Judge Dabaja was also appointed by Governor Whitmer to the LCSA (Local Community Stabilization Authority) where she served as chair of the body.
